Intel Core i7-4790K

The i7-4790K is an enthusiast-oriented revision of Intel's 4th-gen Core processors which brings updated packaging materials, more capacitors for smoother power deliver, as well as a 'Next Generation Polymer Thermal Interface Material' (NGPTIM). The 4790K is an 1150-pin LGA processor that is compatible with Intel 8-series and 9-series chipsets. It's also worth noting that although the 4790K has a new TIM, it's still compatible with all LGA1150 coolers.

A regular 4790K will cost you roughly 320 EUR, say 339 USD. A binned 4.8 MHz model is in the 375 USD range and the 5 GHz models will pass 400 USD. As such a binned processor is more expensive, but does come with that very nice guaranteed clock...

Intel's Haswell refresh line has drawn a lot of conspicuous looks from those who supported the initial Haswell offering (with the i7-4770K taking the helm). Stating the disbelievers on point, there just can't be much of a difference between Haswell and...

To sum up, there is nothing spectacular about the brand new 4790K. I am quite surprized that during a year Intel did absolutely nothing regarding performance or overclocking potential. In fact the overclocking is worser compared to our...

So how do we score Devil's Canyon? It's a very fast Haswell refresh that has no architectural equal. Stock clock users will love it thanks to a stock 4 GHz core which turbos to 4.4 GHz quickly, so you can get more done in less time. Although it seems...
