The A10-7800 is an ideal solution for low budget gamers who can't afford a Core i3 with a discrete graphics card, offering the R7 GPU at the cheapest price possible. Still, at $155 it isn't much faster than the A8-7600, which we think is the APU to watch out for at only $100.

A10 7800, a new locked FM2+ APU. This new APU from AMD has 12 compute cores split between 4 CPU and 8 GPU. The Kaveri cores are clocked at 3.5GHz it can go up to a 3.9GHz with Turbo, and the GPU clock speed is 720MHz. The APU has a TDP of 65W making this...

We come away thinking that these 45W/65W chips really needed to be available six months ago, yet the prolonged wait hasn't taken away all their lustre. The reviewed A10-7800 is shaping up to be a solid all-round choice, but if the price is right, you may now be able to pick up both the long-overdue A8-7600 APU and an FM2+ motherboard for around £100. That's a combination worthy of consideration.

There are areas where AMD are moving ahead thanks to software optimisation. Photoshop CC with OpenCL being one ideal example. The new A10-7800 is priced reasonably close to some i3 CPUs though so that too needs taken into account and of course then there is the GPU which is significantly stronger on the AMD chip. So if you plan to game, it really does mean leaning towards the AMD part as the purchase.

The A10-7800 offers similar performance to a stock speed A10-7850K but has the advantage of offering optimised TDP modes that are useful for low power systems. In fact, at 65W, it practically matched the A10-7850K in many tests despite sporting a...

Much like the many previous APUs we tested, I've personally been working with this particular A10-7800 APU for a couple of days in my personal work system, and yes its an excellent APU for generic desktop PC usage. Combine your setup with a nice SSD and...

So I think most people will admit that AMD has had a lot of wins this year with all of the Ryzen launches. As I found out in our 1700v7700K coverage the 7700K was still a great performing CPU, especially when looking at gaming performance. But with...
