Intel Core i7-10700K

The Core i7-10700K is an 8-core, 16-thread CPU, same as the 9900K, but whereas the Coffee Lake part features a base clock of 3.6 GHz, the 10700K won't drop below 3.8 GHz and as a result the TDP has been increased to 125 W. The boost clock frequency has also been increased by 100 MHz, which sees the 10700K hit 5.1 GHz.

Performance Benchmarks

All benchmark data reflects aggregated results from dozens of tests conducted in TechSpot’s labs and compiled from our full library of CPU reviews. Single-core productivity scores are based primarily on Cinebench and Adobe Photoshop workloads. Multi-core results draw from Cinebench, Blender, Corona Benchmark, 7-Zip, Adobe Premiere Pro, and shader compilation tests. CPU gaming benchmarks are all 1080p runs (explainer) as published on TechSpot.

Intel Core i7-10700K vs. Ryzen 7 3700X vs. Ryzen 9 3900X: The 10700K simply can't match the value of the competing Ryzen parts in productivity applications. The Core i7-10700K is either on par with the 3700X for a massive 40% price premium or much slower than the 3900X for about the same price.

Intel has some seriously fast Core i9 processors, but if you're after something a little more affordable without sacrificing too much on performance, the Core i7-10700K is ready to handle most demanding tasks and gaming. It's fast, reliable, and efficient, but falls a little short compared to AMD's offerings.

The Core i7-10700K essentially matches the Core i9-10900K's gaming performance after overclocking, but for $100 less. However, AMD alternatives are better for productivity work.

The Core I7-10700K is a solid workhorse that will excel in all tasks you throw at it. Surprisingly, that also somewhat limits its versatility. It's the ideal choice if your day consists of productivity applications that are both high and low-threaded, mixed in with gaming, and you are willing to spend a bit more for the extra performance. If you're more focused on cost, the Core i5-10600K offers solid value at its price.

Intel polishes the mistake of the 9900K offering a nice thermal improvement but still, the 10700K is not an easy recommendation even though it holds onto the crown of the current best gaming CPU.

The Core i7 10700K is a fast processor, make no mistake. In the end, though, seen upgrading from the Core i9 9900K(S) things are more challenging to advise though. But yes, we can certainly recommend Comet Lake-S if you take all the variables we mentioned in mind.

Overall, I think the market is getting a little bit of fatigue from continuous recycling of the Skylake microarchitecture on the desktop. The upside is that a lot of programs are optimized for it, and Intel has optimized the process and the platform so much that we’re getting a lot higher frequencies out of it, at the expense of power.
