AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D is the first processor to feature AMD's 3D V-cache technology. Making CPU cores faster rather than adding more cores is the best way to boost PC gaming performance. That's why AMD has supercharged their 8-core, 16-thread CPU to create the Ryzen 7 5800X3D with 3D V-cache.

CPU Benchmarks

All benchmark data reflects aggregated results from dozens of tests conducted in TechSpot’s labs and compiled from our full library of CPU reviews. Single-core productivity scores are based primarily on Cinebench and Adobe Photoshop workloads. Multi-core results draw from Cinebench, Blender, Corona Benchmark, 7-Zip, Adobe Premiere Pro, and shader compilation tests. CPU gaming benchmarks are all 1080p runs (explainer) as published on TechSpot.

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D Revisited, Four Years Later: Over the past few years, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D has consistently delivered gaming performance on par with AMD's modern 6-core processors, including the 7600X and 9600X, and our latest testing confirms this still holds true.

From Ryzen 5 3600 to 5800X3D: The Big Upgrade: Normally we'd recommend the Ryzen 5 5600 as a smart Zen 3 upgrade, but as we've found for 3600 owners, it's not a huge step forward and in many instances the performance uplift is going to be fairly negligible. After all, it was only 17% faster on average at 1080p using a Radeon RX 6950 XT whereas the 5800X3D was 46% faster.

Ryzen 7 5800X3D vs. Core i7-12700KF: Best CPU For Gamers:
If you want to build a high-end gaming system with the goal of receiving the best performance possible without going overboard on the cost of stuff like memory, then the 5800X3D is the way to go. However, if you're merely after a strong gaming CPU that's also great for general use and productivity, then we'd say the 12700 variants are better all-rounders.

Ryzen 7 5800X3D vs. Core i9-12900K in 40 Games: As for the Ryzen 7 5800X3D vs. Core i9-12900K battle, our day-one review summed it up the best and although we've tested five times more games here, the conclusion goes unchanged: for those seeking maximum gaming performance, but don't want to go stupid with pricing, and care a bit about power efficiency, the 5800X3D seems like the obvious option.

Yes, but only with the understanding that you'll need a new motherboard down the line. As impressive as it is, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a little tough to recommend simply based on the time it launched and where future CPU generations are headed. Editors'...

Certainly if AMD can utilise the low latency that this design solution brings, without having to take away our boost clock and memory overclocking tools, then this could be a watershed moment in future CPU design, and for that it wins our Innovation Award.
