AMD Ryzen 5 7500X3D

The 7500X3D isn't particularly compelling at today's prices, but it's an interesting piece of AMD's AM5 puzzle. With a more aggressive price tag, it could easily turn into a smart entry point for newcomers to the platform – though that audience may be smaller than usual right now, thanks to the painful cost of DDR5.

CPU Benchmarks

All benchmark data reflects aggregated results from dozens of tests conducted in TechSpot’s labs and compiled from our full library of CPU reviews. Single-core productivity scores are based primarily on Cinebench and Adobe Photoshop workloads. Multi-core results draw from Cinebench, Blender, Corona Benchmark, 7-Zip, Adobe Premiere Pro, and shader compilation tests. CPU gaming benchmarks are all 1080p runs (explainer) as published on TechSpot.

A hard sell when it first launched, a few months later the AMD Ryzen 5 7500X3D is even less convincing an option for most buyers. It excels at gaming in general, and is particularly good for CS2 and other very high frame rate gaming situations, so it's certainly still a solid option. However, it's so weak elsewhere that it falls well short of an outright recommendation for most right now.

While $269 is enough cash to throw some doubt towards the title of "budget gaming CPU", the gaming performance the 7500X3D provides is meaty enough to make it a serious value proposition nonetheless. It's darn close to the more expensive (and now difficult to find) 7600X3D in the gaming benchmarks, and gives many non-X3D CPUs a real thrashing in the process.

All of which places the Ryzen 5 7500X3D into a very tiny box. At £245 it’s a chunk of change more than other options from AMD or Intel that have much better productivity scores. Go much further up the Ryzen price ladder and you’re into processors which are just inherently fast enough to overcome their lack of X3D-ness.

The Ryzen 5 7500X3D is AMD’s most accessible entry into the X3D lineup — a six-core, twelve-thread processor built for gamers who want the benefits of AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology without breaking the bank. Based on the Zen 4 architecture, it offers a 65 W TDP, DDR5-6000 EXPO support, and the AM5 platform’s long-term socket compatibility. When considering a switch to AM5, the total cost of ownership remains a big factor. DDR5 memory still carries a premium and is slowly increasing.

In the long term, the Ryzen 5 7500X3D could also become an attractive option outside the USA if AMD expands its availability. This would establish the CPU as an ideal entry point into the AM5 platform, which offers a future-proof foundation with DDR5 support and PCIe 5.0. For gamers who are currently looking for a new PC and value price-performance, the 7500X3D is therefore an exciting new addition – and possibly the new standard for affordable gaming in 2025.
