Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super

The RTX 2070 Super is good, it kills off the Radeon VII at its current price and does the same to the RTX 2080. So you’re almost getting $700 performance for $500, almost. There’s also no better deal to be had at this price point and that’s why we need AMD to step it up a notch, or ten.

Reviewers Liked

  • Excellent gaming performance on par with RTX 2080
  • A GeForce RTX 2080-sized cooler and trimmed-down TU104 processor translate to higher operating clock rates, slower-spinning fans, and lower operating temperatures
  • Superb Founders Edition design

Reviewers Didn't Like

  • Bigger and more power hungry than RTX 2070
  • Not quite fast enough for smooth performance at 4K with details maxed out

Despite costing more than the RX 5700 XT, higher performance and a far better cooler make this card worth the cash.

Ditching the Ti moniker that has been used to denote faster variations in the past, Nvidia has released three new cards in what it calls its RTX Super range. The RTX 2060 Super was a significant upgrade over its original, sporting more memory, CUDA...

NVIDIA's "Super" GPUs are pretty self-explanatory: they're just faster versions of the cards that came before. But the name also has a hint of desperation, now that AMD is nipping at its heels with a brand new Radeon architecture. All of that corporate...

The new RTX 2070 Super is a great GPU. Super in fact… though I am still uncomfortable with that suffix. We are talking about a high-priced graphics card here, sure, but the price/performance ratio is where it should be considering it's upstaging a $699...

The Founders Edition of the GeForce RTX 2070 Super delivers performance on par with GPUs that cost $200 more, wrapped in an attractive, quiet package. This is an excellent graphics card.

In the end, NVIDIA’s has made an aggressive, strategic move with these new GeForce RTX Super GPUs. They up the ante in terms of performance per dollar and put some significant pressure on the competition a few days out from the debut of a new architecture.

While the RTX 2070 SUPER is bringing performance tantalizingly close to an RTX 2080 for $200 less, I think for most gamers who would like to venture beyond 1080p and still get great performance the RTX 2060 SUPER is more than enough card, with performance virtually identical to that of the outgoing RTX 2070 (non-SUPER…and yes, this could easily get confusing with existing RTX cards in the retail channel).

The new RTX Super lineup will definitely turn up the heat on AMD, who are pricing their RX 5700 XT at $450 (for now). RX 5700 XT will definitely not be able to match RTX 2070 Super performance, and we're having doubts whether thermals or noise will end up being comparable, which could make the $50 price increase to Super very justifiable for potential customers, or force AMD to reduce their pricing.

The GeForce RTX Super cards bring a dollop more performance for the same money. Hard to argue with that.

The RTX 2070 Super has similar performance levels to recommend it, regularly appearing at the top of the RTX 2070 pile and in a few, F1 2018, Deus Ex, Far Cry 5 abutting the RTX 2080. If you wondered whether the extra hardware is making a difference too in the Ray Tracing benchmark Port Royal the RTX 2070 Super scores a mere 60 points shy of the RTX 2080. Only 1% behind.

By Overclock3D on

The GeForce RTX 2070 Super is everything that was good about the 2070, plus about 10-15 percent more performance, at the same price.
