Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090

The GeForce RTX 3090 is not nearly as exciting as last week's RTX 3080 release, but as soon as Jensen said this was a Titan class product, we knew what we were in for. If you’re a PC gamer, the RTX 3090 doesn't really make much sense. The massive 24GB VRAM buffer has no appeal here, and despite Nvidia’s best efforts, 8K gaming just isn’t a thing, hell even 4K is still niche.

If you want one of the fastest graphics cards in the world and cost is secondary, Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3090 Founders Edition is a fine choice. But if money matters at all, other GeForce RTX GPUs are superior values.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 is the most powerful graphics card you can buy today, delivering playable 8K gaming performance, along with jaw-dropping 3D rendering and encoding performance. However, you have to pay a high price for this level of power, and it's probably not worth the investment for a vast majority of people.

This frankly enormous graphics card is supremely powerful, but is more worthy of its Titan credentials than the GeForce branding. For your average gamer it doesn't deliver enough over the RTX 3080 to make sense, but for the pro-creator it's a workload-crushing card.

But it is formidable if you deliver it to the right circumstances. Would we recommend this product? Ehm no, you are better off with GeForce RTX 3070 or 3080 as, money-wise, this doesn't make much sense. But it is genuinely a startling product worthy of a top pick award, an award we hand out so rarely for a reference or Founder product but we also have to acknowledge that NVIDIA really is stepping up on their 'reference' designs and is now setting a new and better standard.

Obviously, the $1,499 GeForce RTX 3090 Founder's Edition isn't an overall value play for the vast majority of users. If you're a gamer shopping for a new high-end GPU, the GeForce RTX 3080 at less than 1/2 the price is the much better buy.

The Nvidia RTX 3090 Founders Edition is a great graphics card. It doesn’t make sense for most gamers based on the price alone, but if you’re a video editor, 3D modeler, or are dipping your toes into 8K content, this is simply the best consumer GPU on the market today.

The extravagant GeForce RTX 3090 is a poor value for pure gamers, but a stunning value for creators who can use its massive 24GB of memory. Nvidia's Founders Edition cooler is exceptional.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Founders Edition is the new king in town!

By LegitReviews on

All told then, RTX 3090 is the traditional hard sell for the mainstream gamer but the high-end crowd will likely lap it up. But it leaves me with a simple question: where next for the Titan and Ti brands? You don't retire powerhouse product tiers for no good reason and I can only wonder: is something even more powerful cooking?

If you're still happy with your current graphics card, of course, there's no need to upgrade. But right now, we're staring at Cyberpunk 2077, Watch Dogs: Legion, and the next generation consoles with ray tracing support. I, for one, know I want to run those games with all the bells and whistles enabled — at least for a little while, before deciding if my GPU can cope.
