Intel Arc A770 16GB

The Arc A770 and A750 graphics cards genuinely impressed us on numerous occasions during testing and we believe there's true potential for Intel to become a third contender in the GPU space. But it's hard to entertain the idea of paying a premium for the Arc A770 or A750 over established Radeon GPUs.

The Intel Arc A770 is a bizarre graphics card. Compared to its smaller sibling, the A750, it just doesn’t quite provide the performance you’d expect, particularly given the much heftier price tag. There are solid frame rates at 1080p and 1440p and that 16GB of VRAM does go a long way but it can’t keep up with rivals.

The Intel Arc A770 isn't the best graphics card on the market, and even though it was released just over a year ago, in many ways it's about a generation behind more recent releases from Nvidia and AMD. But as a first attempt at a discrete graphics card release, the Arc series GPUs are surprisingly decent, and the Arc A770 has a lot going for it at its current MSRP, making it a good choice for 1440p gamers on a budget.

As gamers, we need to wonder if we would purchase this card for our own usage. And that's a far more difficult question than we realized. Using a graphics card that was not powered by an AMD or NVIDIA graphics chip seemed fiction. But here we are....

If you’re thinking of buying an A750 or A770, I would just recommend reading every review possible. Intel’s Arc cards are so new that there will be some performance limitations for certain games and early driver issues. You’ll want to make sure your favorite game runs well before you consider going Intel in these early days.

If you're looking for solid deals, especially following years of ever-increasing GPU prices, the Arc A750 and A770 are tough to beat. After almost a decade of doubting Intel's graphics hardware, I can't help but feel like the gruff farmer in Babe: That'll do Intel, that'll do.

The Intel Arc A380 that Intel released earlier this year was an interesting piece of hardware, but that card's limited performance wasn't going to win many converts from AMD or Nvidia. The new Intel Arc A770 Limited Edition ($329 with 8GB of memory;...
