Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060

Our advice is clear: don't buy the GeForce RTX 4060 at its current asking price. We believe the Radeon RX 7600 should cost $230, making the RTX 4060 a great buy at around $250. Until then, consider previous-generation options or used graphics cards for better value and performance.

Reviewers Liked

  • DLSS 3 is a useful feature in the games that support it
  • USD 299 price is lower than the RTX 3060's launch price
  • Decent gaming performance

Reviewers Didn't Like

  • Disappointing performance improvement versus the RTX 3060 and even RTX 2060
  • 8GB VRAM, while more forgivable at this price point, is still a clear limitation for gaming today and into the future
  • Lackluster performance at higher resolutions
  • Less memory than the GeForce RTX 3060
  • Big drop in core counts relative to 4060 Ti
  • Weak at higher resolutions

GeForce RTX 4060 vs. Radeon RX 7600: As we found in our day-one review, the GeForce RTX 4060 and Radeon RX 7600 are very evenly matched, and this is particularly true for rasterization performance. The question now is, is the RTX 4060 worth the extra $30, an 11% premium? Even at this price point, $30 isn't a huge amount of money, but it's also not nothing.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 vs. RTX 4060 Ti: So, is the "Ti" worth it? The short answer: no. Full disclaimer before we continue, we don't think either of these products are worth their current asking price, or the MSRP. However, if for some reason you were weighing between these two products, you'd be best off purchasing the standard RTX 4060 and just ignoring the more expensive Ti version.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 makes a fantastic upgrade for anyone looking for best-in-class 1080p performance while leaving the door open for some solid 1440p performance (with caveats) at an acceptable price point. The biggest problem though is with its 8GB VRAM, which puts a cap on how high up the resolution stack this card can effectively go even as its best features are tied too closely to whether game developers implement them.

Ultimately, the Nvidia RTX 4060 is another very underwhelming launch. Real generational gains for this class of hardware just don’t seem to be a thing any more, and while it is slightly more palatable than the RTX 4060 Ti, it's still very hard to recommend outright, at least not without a reasonable price cut.

Nvidia's GeForce RTX 4060 (tested here in Asus livery) produces exceptional ray-tracing performance, thanks to its "Ada Lovelace" architecture. It's the best modern, moderate-cost graphics card for 1080p gaming.

Reliable performance and sensible prices abound. This card launches cheaper than the GTX 1060 did, at least when you adjust for inflation as £239 in 2016 money is now £306 in today’s market… yikes. If the Steam Hardware Survey has taught us anything it’s that the xx60 cards sell by the truckload and I see no reason why this new one will be an exception.

The GeForce RTX 4060 is here, delivering exceptional efficiency and a nice performance uplift over the GeForce RTX 3060. As a mainstream GPU the MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Ventus 2X is impressive and proves that DLSS 3 works across the entire line-up.

At this seriously competitive end of the market, where every pound spent needs to deliver maximum benefit, the Gigabyte RTX 4060 Windforce OC is too warm and somewhat lacking in performance to be worthy of any recommendation when considering both these cards cost the same amount. Alternatively the ASUS RTX 4060 Dual OC card is faster, and cooler, and thus wins our OC3D Value For Money award.

The Asus Dual RTX 4060 is a great 1080p graphics card at a good price, but there's a catch: Only 8GB of VRAM. This means some games will have problems with stuttering, but on the whole, this is a GPU that will deliver a 60 fps experience in most PC games. DLSS 3.0 is also a welcome new feature that will help stretch those frame rates even further.

The Nvidia RTX 4060 costs just $299, and that low price covers a multitude of compromises. Even with less memory than the previous generation RTX 3060, performance is still good, especially for 1080p gaming, plus it only needs 115W of power.

I just can’t help but think that if this product had been called the RTX 4050 Ti – even if it was launching at the same price (though that wouldn’t go over well at all) – there would still be room for a cut-down AD106 product between this and the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB. And that product could have been the RTX 4060. Product names and pricing might be all we talk about when we look back on this generation of NVIDIA GPUs, years from now.
