AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT

Purchasing the Radeon 7700 XT at $450 is ill-advised when the 7800 XT is available, leaving us questioning AMD's rationale behind this launch. If the 7700 XT does drop to $400 in the coming weeks, AMD needs to look at changing the way they approach Radeon products.

The AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT offers a major performance boost over its predecessor at a lower price, even giving the much more expensive RTX 4070 a run for its money. But with the Radeon RX 7800 XT just $50 more, the card is a harder sell than it should be.

Overall, I’m impressed with both the RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT at 1440p. They both offer strong performance, even if the pricing isn’t quite radical enough. There’s a chance AMD’s pricing will put the pressure on Nvidia, though. At $449, the RX 7700 XT has already pushed Nvidia to discount the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB model.

AMD's RX 7700 XT gets stuck between the proverbial rock and hard place. The performance and features aren't bad, but it's priced far too close to the 7800 XT right now, not to mention competition from the previous generation RX 6800.

The XFX RX 7700 XT Qick 319 might be slightly more expensive than the base MSRP options, but it's bringing a lot of sizzle to the show, with fantastic build quality, power design and low temperatures wrapped around a very capable card. It's certainly the best a RX 7700 XT could be, and that is enough to win it our OC3D Gamers Choice Award.

The AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT helps to alleviate the needs of the budget gamer with era appropriate specs and performance, but it’s in serious need of a price drop to unlock the value it can offer.

The RX 7700 XT could be a winner considering how much faster it is than the 4060 Ti 16GB for the same money. Compared to the RX 7800 XT however, it makes little sense to us.

All things considered, the graphics card market ought to be in a healthier place with these two new Team Red GPUs. The RX 7800 XT offers a genuinely convincing combo of performance and features at its $499/£479 MSRP, while the RX 7700 XT holds up well against the 4060 Ti and 6700 XT, only suffering in comparison to the 7800 XT at $50/£50 more.

So the big question. Should you buy one? Yes, but also no. As I mentioned, if you’re on a strict budget, then it’s a bit of a no-brainer, and compared to the competition, it’s a clear winner, as there really isn’t any competition, other than themselves. The 4060 Ti is subpar in comparison, even if cheaper, and the RTX 4070 is too expensive in comparison, but if you have the extra cash, and we’re only talking about a coffee a day for the best part of two weeks, then skip this and just get the 7800 XT instead, even if that is fantastically average.
