The Radeon RX 7600 XT is another frustrating release from AMD as they narrowly miss the mark again. Had they priced this GPU at $300, it would have matched the value of the 6700 XT, coming in a bit slower, but also a bit cheaper, and with more VRAM. It would have eliminated the RTX 4060 from contention – and while potentially doing the same to a $270 RX 7600 – AMD could have discounted or discontinued that product.

The AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT is an odd breed of GPU. On the one hand, the extra VRAM provides a lot more head-room in terms of 4K gaming potential, yet on the other, that comes at a fairly significant cost bump in contrast to the likes of the AMD RX 7600, which performs almost identically in both 1080p and 1440p gaming.

With 16GB of VRAM making a difference in select titles, the ASRock AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT Steel Legend OC also overclocks the already overclocked Radeon RX 7600 XT to squeeze a tiny bit more performance out of the GPU while running cool and quiet.

The AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT is a great 1080p graphics card, but it doesn't make much sense to buy it when you can get the same performance for less from either AMD or Nvidia. Still, if you're looking for a 1080p graphics card and you want the extra VRAM to be ready for the future, the RX 7600 XT will absolutely get the job done.

The Radeon RX 7600 XT does little outside of offering more VRAM to justify its cost versus the cheaper Radeon RX 7600 and competing cards from Nvidia, leaving the otherwise welcome upgrade feeling somewhat limp.

Radeon RX 7600 XT cards should be hitting store shelves today. If you’ve got strict budget, a 1080p monitor, and the Radeon RX 7600 XT’s performance will due, it’s a competent mainstream GPU. If you could save up another $80-$100 though, there’s a ton of additional performance to be had with a higher-end card like the Radeon RX 7700 XT or GeForce RTX 4060 Ti.

So, the RX 7600 XT didn’t totally convince us, even if its performance is up on that of the RX 7600, and not in the same proportions. The absence of a reference card, and therefore the availability of partner cards only, is likely to drive up the price quickly. On the other hand, the competition doesn’t offer anything much more tempting, unfortunately for us.

When deciding to buy the 16GB version of the RX 7600 series, what you're basically betting on is that in the next two or three years, more games are going to start acting like Forza does, even at relatively low resolutions like 1080p. It's not an unreasonable bet to make, given the rough and resource-hungry state of recent PC ports. But realistically, you'll end up being limited by the graphics silicon itself the vast majority of the time.

This product luanch is a tale of two generations. On the one hand, looking only at the Radeon 7000 Series lineup, the RX 7600 XT is bringing double the VRAM and faster GPU clocks out of the box, all for a mere $60 price bump. What’s not to like? Well, take a look at the Radeon 6000 Series cards still out there, just waiting to be scooped up. You may have noticed a certain RX 6700 XT near the top of the charts, and that graphics card regularly sells for the same $329 USD price that the new RX 7600 XT is launching with.

Right now, if you have a budget of $329, I’d probably go with something older that is still capable, or try to increase that budget and go for the 7800 XT. In all of our latest content, it keeps cropping up as the best value card you can buy, and that right now, even though it costs more, is very hard to ignore.
